In Soviet times and from the beginning of the state independence of the Republic of Tajikistan until 1996, the active control of educational institutions was carried out by the State inspection in the field of education. Later, the activities of the State inspection department and the Department of attestation, accreditation and licensing of the Ministry of education of the Republic of Tajikistan have began on March 23, 1996.

  Then, by the advisory decree of the Ministry of education of the Republic of Tajikistan №3/4 dated March 23, 1996, the State attestation service of the Ministry of education of the Republic of Tajikistan was created instead of the Department of state inspection and the Department of attestation, accreditation and licensing of the Ministry of education of the Republic of Tajikistan.

   Henceforth, by the advisory decree of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Tajikistan №11/8 dated October 8, 1999, the Department of state attestation of the Ministry of education of the Republic of Tajikistan was created instead of the State attestation service of the Ministry of education of the Republic of Tajikistan. On its basis, by the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan № 322 dated June 29, 2001, the Department for attestation of Educational institutions was created under the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Tajikistan, which operated until 2007.

   Later, by the decree of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated March 3, 2007, №105, the Department for attestation of educational institutions under the Ministry of education of the Republic of Tajikistan was transformed into the State supervision service in the field of education and the Regulation, structure of the central office and its management plan was approved by this decree.

   In order to provide state supervision over the effectiveness of the quality of education in educational institutions, a transparent, objective and fair assessment by the body of an educational institution and discretion in decision-making, on the assumption of material and technical facilities and human resources of the State supervision service in the field of education, by the Order of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan dated January 27, 2020, №1430, the State supervision service in the field of education was transformed into the Agency for supervision in the field of education and science under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.

   Later, by the Order of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan dated June 18, 2020, №1557 “On the Agency for supervision in the field of education and science under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan”, the Regulation, the structure of the central office and its management plan were approved.

Currently, the structure of the Agency's central office includes:

• Executive Board;
• Department of state supervision of preschool, general and extended education institutions;
• Department of state supervision of primary, vocational secondary education and adult education institutions;
• Department of state supervision of science and innovation, institutions of higher vocational education, postgraduate education;
• Human resources, legal support department of recognition and equivalence of educational documents on education in foreign countries;
• Evaluation and quality monitoring of education devision;
• Sector of control, office administration and special services;
• Sector of finance and accounting;
• Sector of international relations;
• Management scheme of the Agency for supervision in the field of education and science under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan;
• Central office;
• Department of the Agency for supervision in the field of education and science in Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region;
• Department of the Agency for supervision in the field of education and science in Soghd Region;
• Department of the Agency for supervision in the field of education and science in Khatlon Region;
• Department of the Agency for supervision in the field of education and science in Dushanbe city;
• Unit of the Agency for supervision in the field of education and science in Kulob area of Khatlon region;
• Unit of the Agency for supervision in the field of education and science in Gissar area;
• Unit of the Agency for supervision in the field of education and science in Rasht

  The main goal of the Agency is to determine the directions for the implementation of a unified policy of state supervision in the field of education and science, as well as control over the implementation of statutory and regulatory enactments and state educational standards in educational institutions of the Republic of Tajikistan, regardless of the legal corporate form and departmental affiliation, recognizes and establishes the equivalence of academic certificates, received in foreign countries, and evaluates the process of education and upbringing, the level of knowledge quality of schoolchildren, listeners and students, masters, doctoral candidates, training of specialists and new professional avenues of educational institutions.

  The agency also plans to instill order in the future, expends efforts to improve its activity, to implement the laws of the Republic of Tajikistan, decrees of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and statutory and regulatory enactments, and to adjust its activities based on current requirements.
